In 2015, United Nations Member States adopted 17 Goals as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and an action plan to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of people around the world. Within the above, the positive contribution of migrants to sustainable development is recognized, showing the need for international cooperation to achieve safe, orderly and regular migration. Regarding migrants’ integration and inclusion, three main pillars have been identified:
- The need to ensure equal access of all, including migrants regardless of their migration status, to health, education, decent work and legal identity (Target 8.8, Target 10.2, Target 10.7, Target 10.c, Target 16.9).
- The importance of cultural diversity, non-discrimination and violence prevention (Target 4.7, Target 10.3, Target 16.7)
- The need to build capacity to promote non-discriminatory policies and laws (Target 16.7, Target 16.b)
